I was walking in the woods behind my home in rural Kentucky. It was a nice warm day with no bugs which is unusual. I had gone down my favorite wood road for a half mile or so when I thought I head something. I stopped and listened.
Then I heard some rustling behind a group of birch trees just over a hill to my left. I moved off the road thinking that it might be a deer or something. To my surprise, it was an older man in hiking boots, cut-off jeans and a T-shirt over his shoulder. I guess I startled him as he yelped when he saw me. Then he smiled and said hello. He said his name was Roger and that he often roamed in these woods. I gave him my name and he asked what age I was. I thought that was a funny question but I told him..."I'm a junior in high school. I'm sixteen." He laughed and said he thought I was younger. We chatted for awhile. He offered me some of his water which I gladly took. Then he said, "I hope you'll excuse me. I've got to take a piss."
